Minimum Ventilation Rates for Today’s Broiler Farming

Since the genetic progress in broiler performance has continued. While, for the most part, the management believed to be on pace with improvements in broiler performance, there is one key area where current advice has been fallen behind and that is recommended minimum ventilation rates.

The table below gives a revised set of minimum ventilation rates for broilers. These rates have been updated to account for the improvements in broiler performances in recent years and reflect the broilers for higher ventilation rates as a result of this.

     Ø  The ventilation rates in the table are for ambient temperatures between -1 and 16^oC (30 and 61^oF)

     Ø  Maximum level of related humidity (60-70%    for 1^st three days and 50-60% thereafter)

     Ø  Carbon monoxide (≤ 10 ppm)

     Ø  Carbon dioxide <3000ppm

     Ø  Ammonia <10ppm

     Ø  Bird’s behavior and distribution should be monitored as this can be an indicator of issues that needed to be investigation.

    Ø  The table should be used as guide only and actual rates to be adjusted according to environment conditions. Bird’s behavior and birds bioass (total bird weight n the house)
